Something new....

Good afternoon everyone....
Well this latest piece Ive created (30 x 24 inch acrylics on canvas), is one that ended completely different than what I had imagined it to be!  It also looks tremendously more vibrant in the flesh also, rather than in a photo.  The first layer was simply putting paint on canvas, with splashes of colour randomly placed on the canvas.  Next came dripping and stencils.  Then I left it for a little while, and came back to it, and it sort of morphed into this.  Part of me is still not sure of it (I think thats because I had envisioned something quite different), but part of me loves it!!  What do you think?

New Mixed media pieces....

Good evening everyone!
Well I've been pretty busy with commission work lately, but managed to paint some of these pieces in between.  They all still have a meadow theme, but this time I put them in a night time theme with a moon and sillouette shape ie. animal.  I really enjoyed making all these pieces, and have heaps of ideas for some others.  These are all 12 x 16 inch except for the square one which is a deep canvas
12 x 12 inch.   They start at $85 so if you are interested, you can email me for other details on juliemryder01@gmail.com

From beginning to end.....

Good evening everyone!!
I thought I would post some progress pics of one of my paintings I started a couple of days ago and was mostly able to finish it off today (except for the varnish).  I just love these colours of rich aubergine, magenta and lilac!!

Below:
Here I have added some background flowers/trees/greenery....at this point I am really happy with how it is going

Below:
The finished painting!!  I have titled it 'Into The Night"...I have used acrylic paint, glitter glue and metallic acrylic paint.  It measures 24 x 30 inches.

 Below:
The glitter glue does not really show up in photo's, but it adds a lovely sparkle to the painting when the light hits the painting.  Makes it look really pretty!!

New mixed media works....

Good evening everyone....
Today I was able to get a good days painting in and I finished off these two mixed media paintings. They both had similar colour schemes with a background base of text papers.  I loved adding in the stencilled deer and the butterflies!  I have used text papers, acrylic paints, impasto, glitter glue and papers.

Mixed media fun....moroccan shapes....

On my day off on Tuesday, I thought I would experiment a little bit, with playing around with my acrylic paints, my new stencils (I looove using stencils!!) and also putting my Brother Scan and Cut to use!  I finally found a way to liven up my S & C after realising I could spray stuff on the mat when it lost its stickiness.  And it worked!!!!  Was quite excited about that little tit bit, as those mats are expensive!  Anyway, so I threw a bit of colour around (while catching up on Game of Thrones), and had quite a pleasant afternoon!  I know its a bit of mumbo jumbo colours but it just seems to draw me in.  Its still very much a work in progress!!

Above:  Here I have added the paper moroccan shapes and ovals in an array of colours and patterns.

Above:  Its still a work in progress, but I will have to put it away for a bit as I have a busy week or so ahead of me and I just won't get time to do much of anything!!  I have a couple of evening workshops plus my days at my day job have increased as well.  Looking forward to the weekend thats for sure!!!

Art Journalling....

Art Journalling....
I found this old book (amongst a few others) last year whilst out looking for stuff to add to my mixed media artworks at a recycling place near where I live.  I originally wanted old book pages themselves, to use and cut up for my canvas paintings, but after reading a few posts etc on Pinterest and the like, I decided I wanted to start using some of those hard cover books and make them into art journals!  Im not big into 'writing' a lot like you would in a diary, but more of a self expression of art, where I can express myself artistically or put down new ideas for artwork etc.  I have not fully finished each page, more like put a 'base' down so that I can add other things to it later.  Whether it be some writing, doodling, tags etc, the important bit is to just get something 'down' on the page and let the ideas flow!  Well I am thoroughly enjoying the experience and it is very therapeutic and very addictive!!  I can use up my gelli plate printed pages, my washi tape that I have hand made myself, plus a HUGE array of papers I have collected over the years!  I am just loving it, and it is so personal and something to keep and  I can hand down to my kids as a part of me when Im long gone!!
Above:  The only thing I wished I did first was to 'cover' the book in some cool fabric!  Never mind, I will think of something to do with the yucky brown cover!  I first 'thinned' out the book (but kept the pages to use in other projects), otherwise the book would be too bulky.  Next I stuck together with glue, about 2 or 3 pages and gessoed them ready to play!!

Below are the results!

Vanilla Dream.....

Here is another from my mixed media girls series....."Vanilla Dreams".
I have used a variety of mediums such as acrylic paint, papers, impasto, glitter glue, fabric, beads, old book pages, wire and pastels.  Lots of shimmer and glitter to this girl and again, the photo's don't do her justice!  Hope you like her.
Cheers
Julie

On this angle, you see some of the metallic gold and glitter that I have used.  :)

New abstract work.....

Well....this one was one of those paintings that I really, REALLY struggled along with!!  I fussed and fluffed, and got mad, got excited then at the end, I finally felt happy with how it turned out!!  Talk about a journey!!  Lots of little details on this one when you get up close to it, and the photo really does not do it justice! Hoping you are enjoying it.
Cheers
Julie

New watercolours....

Good evening everyone.....
I finally had a chance to put some of my latest watercolours and ink illustrations here on my blog.  Ive had a few days to dabble and have come up with these.  I will be putting them in my Etsy store as soon as a I get the chance...A4 prints and A3 prints will be available starting at $25 plus postage.  I will also be adding them onto 7x10inch greeting cards as well.  I hope that you like them.

Dragonflies are quite popular, so I might also do a variation on this one above...possibly in different colours/composition and numbers.

Change in shape....

Well Ive been seeing quite a bit of paintings being done on oval and round shaped canvases, and so I thought I might give it a go also!!  It is quite different to work on especially doing a landscape style painting (even though it will most likely turn out to be a little bit more abstract in the end!).  But all in all, I quite like the shape so far.  Ive gone with a softer palette of pale blues, mauves and aqua.  Looking forward to it drying and making some more progress on it hopefully over the weekend.  I will be adding some delicate flowers and leaves and what not.  I will post my progress soon.
Cheers

NEW....commissioned piece.

Good evening everyone.
Here is my latest commissioned piece I finished earlier on this week.  It measures 24 x 36 inches and I have used acrylic paints and glitter glue.  The photo's really don't do it justice!  The colours are so much more vibrant in the flesh!!  The glitter and metallic paint that I have used, also doesn't really show up in the photo's either.  In real life there is a beautiful and subtle sparkle and shimmer!

If you would like something commissioned, please email me on juliemryder01@gmail.com

New Mixed media girls.....

Good evening everyone -
I have completed these two new mixed media girls, both very quite similar but different at the same time!  They both measure 40 x 50cm, and prices start at $175.   I have used acrylic paint, pastels, impasto paste, paper, beads, fabric, ink and glitter glue.  They are an absolute joy to make and although they are quite time consuming, they are a labour of love!  I hope you love them as much as I do!!  They both have a gold shimmer on the back ground which shows up much better in real life, as does the glitter glue!!

Mail Art!!

Hi Everyone!!
I have been having the best time just playing around making papers using stencils and paint and stamping!!  Ive come across this crazy and very addictive new creativeness - mail art!!  Yes, the snail mail variety!!  Also Ive been dabbling in making my own washi tape (which before this I didnt really 'get').  Now Ive been making beautiful, eye-catching envelopes, I can see how washi tape can be used in such a creative way!  And I just LOVE making it!!  I am hoping to maybe make this into a class - as it is very quite relaxing and enjoyable and my favourite thing - no rules!  You can do whatever you like on your handmade papers!  Hope you enjoy what I have done so far!
Now I just need to write some some letters.........

Above:  Some of my mail art I whipped up the other day!

Above:  Bought some new stamps and I just love using them to make patterned paper!

Above:  Love, LOVE making my own washi tape with double sided tape, paints and stamps!

Above:  I am a watermelon lover (and not just the fruit itself to eat!)  I love it in patterns too!
